NANIWA Gouken Arata , also known as "Baby Chosera" is the Japanese version of Naniwa Professional and comes in a convenient wet stone holder/case for sharpening and safe storage ( PTC-001 ).
It is a coarse and efficient stone that sets up a new edge in record time. It wears away steel quickly and provides a smooth grinding pattern. It gives a clear rough edge and provides a good starting point before moving on to a finer stone. It is a medium-hard stone that gives good feedback when you sharpen on it.
The Gouken Arata series are fantastic sharpening stones for those who want to take the next step in knife sharpening and who want the best for their Japanese knives. The stones are very beginner-friendly and will give professional results if you have good sharpening technique.
At Tomatosharp we always start with this stone to sharpen a new edge and to remove small nicks along the edge, and it lasts well over a couple of thousand knives before it is "used up".
Gouken Arata is a "splashing" stone, which means that you can sharpen immediately after putting water on the stone. However, we recommend soaking this stone when using it for the first time for better results.
Specifications:
- Grit: #400 (coarse)
- Type: Splashing stone
- Size: 210 x 70 x 15 mm
- Abrasive material: White aluminum oxide
Instructions for use
Apply a little water to the surface and it is ready to use. Add water little by little as needed so that the stone does not dry out during grinding. Rinse and let the stone dry at room temperature after use.
Maintenance
If the stone starts to become less effective or the surface becomes uneven, you can use a dressing stone to flatten and clean the stone. We recommend flattening frequently, preferably after each sharpening, to avoid the stone becoming uneven over time.
