Description
These handles are made from light wood and finished with fuki-urushi , a traditional Japanese technique where raw urushi lacquer is applied and wiped off in several rounds with a cotton cloth. It gives a hard-wearing, natural surface that shows the grain and growth rings of the wood, and protects against moisture and wear.
The edges are painted by hand with a light urushi finish that frames the shape and gives each handle a quiet contrast. The result is a handle with a deep glow, a silky texture and a clear sense of handwork.
The handle is a little lighter than a standard handle, so it suits small and medium-sized knife blades particularly well. Function, looks and Japanese tradition in one.
