Description
NANIWA Gouken Arata, also known as 'Baby Chosera', is the Japanese version of Naniwa Professional and comes in a practical whetstone holder and case for sharpening and safe storage (PTC-001).
It is a medium-coarse whetstone, good for sharpening a knife that is starting to go dull. It leaves an even scratch pattern and is a good starting point before you finish on a finer stone. It is a medium-hard stone that gives good feedback while you sharpen.
The Gouken Arata range is a very good choice of whetstones for anyone who wants to take the next step in knife sharpening and wants good stones for their Japanese knives. The stones are very beginner-friendly and give professional results with good sharpening technique.
At Tomatosharp we rely on Naniwa Gouken Arata stones, and they last well over a couple of thousand knives before they are 'used up'.
Gouken Arata is a 'splash and go' stone, which means you can start sharpening as soon as you have put water on the stone.
Specifications:
- Grit: #1000 (medium)
- Type: Splashing stone
- Size: 210 x 70 x 15 mm
- Abrasive: White aluminium oxide
How to use
Put a little water on the surface and it is ready to use. Add water a little at a time as needed so the stone does not dry out while you sharpen. Rinse and let the stone dry at room temperature after use.
Care
If the stone becomes less effective or the surface becomes uneven, you can use a flattening stone to level and clean it. We recommend flattening often, ideally after every sharpening, so the stone does not become uneven over time.
