Description
The NANIWA Base whetstone #1000 is a versatile Japanese whetstone made for efficient, controlled sharpening of kitchen knives. With a grit of #1000, it is the stone for setting or restoring a sharp edge, or for regular maintenance.
The stone removes material quickly and evenly without being too aggressive, which makes it well suited to beginners and experienced users alike.
NANIWA is known for quality and reliability, and the Base series is designed for stability and a long life. The stone works well on both carbon steel and stainless steel, and is a natural first choice as the base stone in any whetstone set-up.
The NANIWA Base is a 'soaking stone': let the stone soak for 15 - 20 min before you start sharpening and it is ready to use. After sharpening, use a flattening stone, diamond plate, flattening mat or similar to keep the stone even and flat without sharp edges.
NANIWA
Naniwa has made whetstones in Osaka since 1941, and the name comes from the city's old name, Naniwa-kyō. The range goes from coarse stones that set a new edge to fine polishing stones.
