Rice bowl from the Buttermilk range, a so-called donburi bowl. Warm, cream-white glaze and a steady foot.

Ceramics from Gifu in Japan. Gifu is the home of Mino ware (minoyaki). Every piece is checked and glazed by hand, so the glaze settles a little differently on each.

Donburi is the name of both the bowl and the dish: hot rice in a deep bowl with a topping placed straight on top. Well-known versions are gyudon (thin slices of beef), oyakodon (chicken and egg) and katsudon (breaded pork cutlet). The bowl is deep enough for sauce and stock to soak down into the rice, and also works for side dishes.
