Rice bowl 15 cm, MIJ Nin-Rin Earth

Rice bowl from the Nin-Rin Earth series, a so-called donburi bowl. The inside is beige, the rim and outside dark brown, and the glaze is matt.

Ceramics from Gifu in Japan. Gifu is the home of Mino ware (minoyaki). Each piece is checked and glazed by hand, so the glaze settles a little differently on each one.

Donburi is the name of both the bowl and the dish: hot rice in a deep bowl with toppings laid straight on top. Well-known versions are gyudon (thinly sliced beef), oyakodon (chicken and egg) and katsudon (breaded pork cutlet). The bowl is deep enough for sauce and stock to soak down into the rice, and also works for side dishes.
