Satoshi Nakagawa

The story

Satoshi Nakagawa is one of the most talked-about smiths in Japan today. After training under the well-known Kenichi Shiraki, he took over Shiraki Hamono and established Nakagawa Hamono. He combines deep respect for tradition with his own style, and his knives are much sought after by professional chefs and collectors.

Nakagawa-san works in steels such as Shirogami (White Steel) and Aogami (Blue Steel), and his blades are known for sharpness, balance and durability. He also makes honyaki knives, which are among the most demanding to forge. With details such as a kasumi finish and handles in natural materials, Nakagawa Hamono is Japanese knife making at a high level.
