Sakai Takayuki

The story
Sakai Takayuki is a Japanese knife brand with deep roots in Sakai, a city with over 600 years of sword and knife making. When sword making came to an end, Sakai became known for its tobacco knives, and the city went on to become one of Japan's most important centres for professional kitchen knives, used particularly by chefs in the Kansai region.
The Sakai Takayuki brand was established in the 1950s but builds on this long craft tradition. Rather than being tied to one smith, Sakai Takayuki is a collaboration between specialised craftsmen: smiths, sharpeners and handle makers, each with their own field. This division of labour is typical of Sakai and gives knives with high precision, even quality and consistent properties.
Sakai Takayuki is known for its single-bevel and double-bevel Japanese kitchen knives, often used by professional chefs. The knives have thin blades, accurate sharpening and good balance, which gives control and precision, particularly with fish, vegetables and fine cuts.
Today Sakai Takayuki combines traditional techniques with modern steels such as VG10 and various carbon steels. The result is knives that perform steadily over time and are made for daily use in professional kitchens. Sakai Takayuki puts function, precision and reliability ahead of looks, and is known for knives that do the job efficiently and consistently.
